A cataract is a gradual clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. It is common with age, but can also be linked to injury, certain medicines, or diabetes. You may notice blurred or dim vision, glare at night, faded colours, or frequent change in spectacle number.
When is surgery advised?
We usually recommend phacoemulsification when the cataract affects your daily work, driving safety, or quality of life — not only based on a “maturity” grade. A detailed slit-lamp and sometimes OCT assessment guide the plan, including IOL power and type, as part of our eye department pathway.
