Fever itself is a response to infection, not a disease. The priority is how the child looks, breathing effort, and fluid intake. Offer frequent small sips of ORS, water, or breastmilk; light clothing; and only antipyretics as advised for age and weight — never aspirin in children.
See a doctor the same day if
- Infant under 3 months with any fever.
- Refusing fluids, no urine in 8–12 hours, or drowsy and difficult to rouse.
- Breathing fast, blue lips, or severe chest indrawing — come to the emergency/OPD or call for guidance.
