A hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall through which internal contents can bulge. Inguinal hernias are common in men; umbilical types appear at the navel. Some need urgent repair if stuck (incarcerated) or if bowel blood supply is at risk; others can be electively fixed when symptoms or exam warrant.
Mesh and laparoscopy
Most groin hernias today are repaired with a synthetic mesh to lower recurrence. The approach can be open (small groin cut) or laparoscopic (TEP/TAPP) — choice depends on hernia type, past surgery, and fitness. Our surgery OPD in Tohana will explain activity limits after surgery, pain control, and when to resume work.
